Montana River Guides is the Alberton Gorge's leading outfitter and the only rafting company headquartered right on the Clark Fork River at the put-in for the Alberton Gorge. We have been a regional leader and innovator in whitewater safety, swiftwater rescue and whitewater rafting and have worked hard to make contributions to our community. Owner Mike Johnston got his start in Whitewater Rafting and Swiftwater Rescue back in 1986 when he was a patrol and backcountry ranger for the National Park Service. After working as a ranger, as a patroller and OEC Instructor for the National Ski Patrol, Mike founded Montana River Guides in 1994 and has been teaching swiftwater rescue since 1996. In 2008 Mike and Cody Harris founded the Whitewater Rescue Institute (WRI) as a way to broaden their swiftwater rescue outreach and education. Over the years we've provided rescue and safety instruction for thousands of boaters, guides and rescue professionals from over 200 different agencies and organizations. We introduced Riverboarding to Montana back in 1995 and continue to be the only Riverboard Guide Services in Montana and one of just a few in North America.
